Turning Lots into Plenty -

OUR PILOT PROJECT:

A pilot project at 2621 W. Caithness Place in Denvers’ Highland neighborhood is producing organically grown vegetables for distribution to area needy.  The project is being tended by volunteers from Independence House and Rose Rodriguez.

Expert Volunteer Gardeners Jason and Kate McRoy from Grow Local Colorado are managing the plot.

Use of the land was donated by Jim Schneck of MasterBuild Architects.

OUR HISTORY:

Denver architect Jim Schneck developed Breaking Ground after seeing growing numbers of undeveloped vacant lots in metro Denver. Breaking Ground was founded on the belief that these lots can be put to positive uses during the time between when developers acquire the land and permits are issued, a period that can often be several years.  The Breaking Ground team hopes to expand the program citywide in coming years.
